A note from the nest: The Owl is made by people, with a little help from machines. Its spirit and design evoke an earlier analog age, while its making explores new frontiers of human expression. We use generative AI in the spirit of artistic experimentation. The Owl is an intentional paradox for an organization devoted to the humanities: sometimes an encounter with a nonhuman intelligence, itself an artifact of human culture, brings us more deeply into what it means to be human. What we make of that encounter, and what we put our names to, remains ours as we press into the question.
